Proximal femoral fractures are one of the most common problems occurring in the elderly patients, especially amongst women worldwide. The incidence of hip fractures that occur each year in the world has been constantly increasing probably due to demographic modifications and increases in the average life span of the population. The risk of hip fracture rises exponentially with the presence of concurrent osteoporosis though there are other predictors of femoral fractures exclusive of bone mineral density.
